      quarantine tank maintanence

I have a old biocube tank that i setup as a quarantine tank. I was curious how other member maintain their QT tanks when they are not being used. I kind of don't want to keep it running and waste power/water changes if i don't need to but at the same time i don't any issues if i need to fire it up to put it in use.

      Any advice?

If you dont want to keep it running, Id have extra media (filter floss/sock/etc) in your main display setup.

That way when you do have to treat, you can use that media to cycle your QT. Those bio-spira help alot too.

Keeping up with that theme, a sponge filter floating in your sump is also an easy way to quickly setup a quarantine tank when you need one. There's no need to keep a tank up and running unless it's a large tank (300gal+) and you're just starting to stock it. A biologically active sponge filter works really well. Then if you have to copper or use any other meds, you can just toss the filter when you're done and start another.
