      ATO opinions

So I know like 90% of us use/have used an auto top off on our systems but I wanted to get peeps opinions.

All ato opinions welcome, but particularly interested in Aqua Smart ATO

Who has one of these up and how long have they had it? Love it/hate it? Any issues to note?

I have the Aqua Smart ATO for 4-5 months now. For the most part it works ok. The alarm goes off automatically after 48 hours if the pump doesnt run or when the water is low in the reservoir. However, there has been a few times when the alarm goes off and i have no idea why. I have to unplug/plug to fix. Other than that, no other issues.

I bought it used from Amazon for 120 i think. Id probably buy again if I didnt have any options here (sdr).

That aqua smart straight up sucks! Really cool design and I was supper stoked at the ease of install at first, but I would never trust or use one myself after seeing it over a period of time. I have had two clients with them, both are constantly having problems, alarm going off, not topping off, always needing to be "rebooted", constant alarm after reboot at least half the times. Maybe they get a week out of it before a problem. One already ripped it out the other is still using it but complains about it every time I visit their house. Spend the extra couple bucks and get a tunze, you won't regret it. You can get them used on here for the same price or less than that POS.

Tunze, hands down best ato....most expensive but they make up for that quality and customer service
120 gallon. I throw money at it, and it grows colorful sticks.

I made an ATO with my raspberry pi and 2 sensors. It is great because I can set the maximum pump run time, frequency of top offs, and it logs top offs so I can spot unusual top off patterns and see if anything is wrong.

Recommended to me by someone on the boards and I've recommended it to many others. These are fantastic ATOs, they are cheap, well-made, and stupid-simple. I have had mine for over a year and not a single problem.

I have the smart ATO and i agree with the previous comments about it randomly alarming. In the 6months i've owned it, the water level sensors seem pretty accurate as to when to turn it on and turn it off. But it does randomly alarm for no reason and it doesn't pump anything when its in this state. My main purpose for the ATO was for vacations so i found a work around. I hooked it up to a timer that reboots the device every two hours and that seems to "fix" my issues. I really don't care to much about the memory on how much it filled up last time and the alarm for this time its filling up more. Since i put it on the timer it seems pretty reliable.
