As someone that works in the Pet Industry, this kind of stuff usually does not bother me. But I am really fired up

I was at Petco Sports Arena location yesterday picking up dog food and walked around their marine department. What I saw was disturbing. Brook in all tanks. Thousands of dollars in ORA clowns, purple tangs, and much more just torn up with protozoans. Tanks running dry, leaking on the floor causing rust problems and dying SPS corals were just some of things I saw.

I go to LAX importers every few weeks so I am no stranger to seeing dead fish and sick fish swimming around, and how to treat them accordingly, this was awful especially given that Petco is a place where many people begin their fishkeeping hobby.

I called the manager, her name was Debbie. She was very rude on the phone and discredited everything I say. Maintaining healthy fish is literally what I do for a living. I have made it my personal mission in life to resolve this issue

I used to work at this location 6 years ago too. It was nowhere near this bad, sure it wasn't great but wasn't the cesspool I saw yesterday.

Petco cannot be making money with overpriced, unhealthy fish like this (they weren't when I was working there) and I know all Petco's are not created equal but this leaves an awful stigma on our industry especially with all the scrutiny we have been under.

Please do not use this as a Petco bash thread, it will just get deleted.

Please feel free to call Debbie at 619-758-1731 and ask what she is going to do about this issue.

I was just there at lunch today to pick up some instant ocean bio spira. I noticed the same thing with their livestock.

Take some pictures and send it to her. I think someone on here still works at petco... they may have a corporate email you can send them to to complain if they don't resolve this.

I personal blew up on the manger JEFF at the El Cajon 2nd st location

Was a complete jerk and blew me off, as if I was some random stranger off the street & not in a business establishment

would not at all address any my concerns "his exact words"

and refused to separate a ora clown getting killed in front of our eyes while we talked

was so pissed off with the way he handled this situation

called corporate reported , got a very appropriate response from them and was promised this would be getting looked into immediately.

I didn't want to mention it but, I worked there as a kid years ago
still have a friend that works there.

In no way would I bash them or talk bad about em
but after years of my loyal service and thousands of dollars spent there
& that!

They lost my business for good , no matter how they resolve this issue.

Well I called corporate. When I told them they have an exceptionally lethal and contagious protozoan infection racing through their systems it got me climbing up the corporate ladder pretty quick They said they will preform an investigation and call me back when they resolve this

Honestly I think the incredibly rude manager really made me want to take them down.

I have done this with Petco in the past and have always heard back. Good job.

I spent 4 miserable years working for Petco.

At the store level an individual store has very little ability / power to make changes and improvements or resolve issues. Calling corporate will make life miserable for everyone at the store level but will have a much better chance of getting something resolved.

That's some ish! I haven't been through that store in a while but last time I was there they were telling me how great the store was gonna be in the future because they were making it the leader for marine in the district (forget the exact term but the main store hub)... guess that isn't working out too well for em

I actually went to this exact location a couple months ago and noticed the same thing! I was in the market for a black ice clown fish and figured maybe i could pay a little extra and save a fish possibly! I found a nice clown that was infested with ich, took him home and treated him and he is still with me 8 months later. It is sad to see the fish there struggling and no employee doing anything about it!
