ALGAGEN LIVE FEEDS FUN FACTS
A typical 16 oz. portion of AlgaGen Live Feed Multipods is in excess of 350 pods and contains several species of PODS. They will range from Adult to Nauplii (babies) and even viable eggs. The pods include both calanoid (swimming or pelagic) and harpacticoid (bottom/substrate dwellers or benthic) copepods.
All of our pods are tropical and thrive in the warmer temperatures of the home aquarium. The type of pods included range in size from 0.1 to 3mm. These sized pods are geared to feed corals, clams, tube worms, feather dusters, filter feeders, fish and other micro life in your tank. They eat detritus and other waste to help keep your tank clean. They are the appropriate size to feed the SPS, LPS, amphipods, Seahorses, Pipefish, Mandarins, Dragonets and other smaller mouthed fish.
They are also appropriately sized for anyone rearing clownfish or other larval fish. In general the PODS we supply go from baby to reproductive juvenile in 7-9 days and then live for 20+ after that -they are very suited to populating a tank.
Our Live Feed Phytoplankton contains several species of Phytoplankton. It also contains Live Zooxanthellae.
Live phytoplankton absorbs carbon dioxide and excess nutrients such as nitrates, phosphates and heavy metals and uses these nutrients to produce EFA’s, essential building blocks of the reef. We have had numerous reports of tanks that had been high in nitrates having significant reduction simply by the addition of our phytoplankton. This gives your reef a completely natural solution without the addition of chemicals.
Zooxanthellae are the symbiotic microalgae that live in the tissue of numerous corals and clams. They consume waste produced by their host, coral/clam, and in return produce carbon in the form of a sugar that feeds the host environment. It is reported that without these symbionts, the coral will “bleach” or “throw off its zooxanthellae” and appear to lose color. Artificial seawater does not contain zooxanthellae. AlgaGen is the only company that produces a live zooxanthellae product.
