      New radiant wrasse problems

Hey all, picked up a new radiant wrasse on Saturday. The past 2 days he's been swimming around doing fine in the qt tank. Today I noticed he was kind of sluggish. Upon closer inspection I saw what looks like missing tissue around his mouth. Not sure what would cause this. I have a sand box with fine Fiji pink sand in it in his qt tank. He seems to burrow in it with no trouble. Ammonia had spiked a little this morning (~0.50) so I did a quick 50% water change (after I noticed the problem). All other parameters were good. He still seems to have some fight in him but he isn't eating much. anyone know if this is something he can recover from?

Its tough to tell but it looks like he has injured his mouth on something. I'm not sure if there is much you can do. I dont know if there is anything you can treat with, maybe an antibiotic?
      Have you seen it eat?

Thanks jt. Yeah I'm thinking an injury since it happened so fast. Is there an antibiotic you would recommend?

I dont. You might want to ask Jeff. Have you seen it eat?

I just got back from the store with some stuff, hopefully things turn around. He did eat a little the first 2 days. I've been feeding frozen mysis. I have some thawing now with some garlic.

Make sure to keep a close eye on the next one, often times they get the snout injuries like you had and they almost always die from it ime.

Sorry for your loss. These are one of my favorite fish, but they can be tricky initially.

Usually it's from trying to bury in the bag on the way home or tank and rubbing the nose raw.

Thanks. I'll see if I can come up with an alternate transportation system next time, maybe a bucket with a sand bed. Also, instead of the sand box in the qt I'll just do a sand bed.

Ive seen it happen when they first go into the tank. They run into a rock or something.
