      Cooling down tank

So, I was curious as hows everyone's tank is doing during the heat wave.... I've noticed about 6-8 degree change. for a 45gal i think thats alot. SO hows everyone keeping there tank cool? or steady? but is a chiller the only way possible?

There are a lot of options, but I think a chiller is the safest way to go. Your corals will thank you later.

You can try adding some fans on the top of the tank to cool through evaporation, just know it'll double your evaporation.

IME a chiller is the only way to go.

Frozen water bottles filled with RO/DI are a quick band-aid, but its such a pain to frequently swap them out.

I have a 25 and haven't seen a difference. I keep the top open and the water falls a little over the overflow which helps cool it. When I do see a temp spike I open the sump door or use a small fan over the sump to cool everything. You can also use frozen water bottles or ice cubes in ziplock bags. Chillers aren't necessary.

A more high tech way to solve the problem would be to plug a fan and heater into your controller. Have it turn the fan on and off at certain temps, same with the heater.

Ditto... Thought about buying that $100 1/15hp chiller, then decided I didn't want a reason to turn the AC off.
Two fans in cooling tray is the (cheapass) way to go! Building a fan tray today!
Turned off the AC today too, tank came up ~4 degrees.

I personally have a vornado fan over the sump on a controller/apex it works awesome
But yes I do top off more but ime my chiller would use a lot of power and would blow heat also
Of course application location would be key there also like fish room or outside
I've always liked the evaporative method really
