Wink UB's 260 gallon mistress... I like em BIG!

UB's 260 build. Come and get some!!!
So I was able to sell my 180 (thanks V!) and get my mid level dream tank. I say mid level because my absolute dream tank is a 450 gal. So I figure get my feet with this big-ol-bitty and see if I even want the stress of a bigger tank. So lets get to the juicy bits.

Tank: leemar 260, 84"x30"x24". Black silicone, black bottom, black back, diamond edges, external overflow drilled for "bean" drain, 1/4" recessed euro brace, 3 sided starfire.

      Sump: TBD

      Skimmer: Aquamaxx ConeS 3

      Return: TBD

Lights: LEDs made by me. Going to try and mimic radions, but on a larger scale.

Controller: reefangel. Great customer service and the ability to pretty much do whatever I want with it.

Stand: custom made by me. Stand is 85"x32"x42" made of all 2x4s and is being skinned with solid 1" maple. No stain though. Going to apply some oils then poly to bring out natural grain and colors of the wood.

Canopy: TBD. Seems a shame to hide this beautiful euro brace. Might do a couple of floating canopies to hide each light fixture. But that might look weird compared to just a regular canopy.

      Here are some pics...

Wow that is one sexy friggin tank. I love the 30" depth. Gonna be such an awesome tank to scape! Can't wait to see more updates on it.

Badass tank man! Is that eurobrace one of those that's below the display glass?

Nice looking tank and very clean looking stand. Nice work. Great dimensions on the tank, too.

Beautiful tank looks like the beginning of a very nice build!
Looking forward to seeing how you finish the cabinet.
I've seen some very nice maple cabs clear coated w/ just a tint of color to clear to really make the grain pop, just a thought/suggestion, maybe play w/ some sample pieces.
I'm sure you'll do something really nice!

It's recessed 1/4". I think it's better so when spills occur on top of the tank, it won't roll off the top of the tank.

Thanks DM. I'm really liking the external overflow. I know you've got one too on your 120. Let me know you you like it once its setup.

Thanks Chris. And for you South Bay folks who need a tank, Chris is the man! He'll arrange delivery to your home. Can't get much better than that.

Thanks Dave. I'm going to try and inlay some walnut strips in the columns. I'm kinda feeling the whole two-toned thing. Also planed and maybe just applying BLO and then maybe follow up with some garnet shellac and then some poly after that. Going to be posting the scraps I work on and see what everyone thinks.

Here's my fav angle of the tank

      Nice!
Too bad Cut and Dried is gone, they used to have these killer laminated inlay strips I always wanted to do something with, maybe there is someone else that has them, but even straight walnut would look great.
I too prefer maple just clear coated, and w/ an accent added would be really nice.
      Anxious to see some samples!

Stand looks great. I really like the closed off electronic area you have created. Going to look super clean.

Thanks echo! I'm trying to make everything extremely clean and simple. That way maintainence won't be so difficult.

      Time for updates!!!!
I was able to figure out what molding I wanted to use.

Also figure out how I want the pillars done.

      Walnut inlays

      Walnut inlayed to maple.

Thought about doing 2 strips for the front and sides of the pillars.

But then I realized that I liked three strips in a staggered formation better.

Here's why the whole pillar will look like. I think it kinda has an Art Deco vibe going on.

Here's a test blot of the inlay with a coat of linseed oil.

Here's a pic of the dry walnut next to the test blot. The walnut darkens up nicely.
