Question Now don't put me on "blast", but...

I would LOVE to add a tiny Moorish Idol to my...( cringe..) 60 gallon tank. I know.. it is wayyy to small to house an adult.. but my question is , can I add a baby.. and rehome it as it outgrows my setup? Sounds silly..but my son and I see them around occasionally..and it's really hard to resist! How quickly would it grow, also? Thanks in advance for not lighting me up! lol..I am just curious..and stubborn!

It'd probably starve to death without abundant swimming space or live rock to graze on. I wouldn't consider idols reef safe either. You'd probably have better luck keeping a small heniochus bannerfish in your tank.

I agree and they need a VERY established to tank to even stand a chance. 60 seems very small to me for a mooriah idol!

agreed they need lots of sponges to graze on as well as lots of coraline alge and copods and small feather worms very difficult to keep in a large system save your money and frustration a banner fish is very similar and you can do a few for the same affect and a lot hardier....my 2 cents...

Mine tripled in size in less than 12 months. I'd pass...

^^^^^^ +1 mine has grown quickly as well. Cool fish, but might not be worth all the trouble.

I kept a Moorish idol with 3 tangs in a 50 gallon breeder for 3 years then I moved. It thrived on spectrum pellets.

Wow.. No kidding?! How big was it when u got it.. And when u moved? I doubt food would be an issue .. Lots of pods and live rock.. Probably twice what it typical! Lol.. But the size worries me.. It would hafta start out tiny!

Had one for two weeks. ate like a pig but wasn't reef safe so I got rid of him. probably too big for your tank but not saying it wouldn't work. Just make sure you get one that eats pellet well.

A baby? ... rarely is one found to be sold. They all come in, at midsize.
Even if you found a "tiny".... getting it to eat, and be comfortable enough to survive is your other problem

You need to be able to resist temptation.
... this won't be your first test Obe-Wan. You must use the force.
