MP40- How do you like it....???? :p

Been saving up for an MP40 for a while, and my bday is coming up in a couple weeks! How does everyone feel about these? worth the price for the unit? I am going to put it on my 75gal. Tank dimensions are 48L x 15W x 24T. So it's a long tank at 4ft and tall at 2ft. I just want to hear everyones personal reviews.

I have an MP 10 & really like it. Awesome flow patterns & really clean look.I cycle through all of the different modes daily. Seems like a lot of $$$ at first but I think it is worth it. I just wish that I could run it through the RKL to cycle through the different modes ( maybe I can but don't know how)

Good and bad, only having one creates a 1 direction flow, with them being so damn expensive it makes it hard to buy two so you can try and create a random none directional flow. Being able to conrtol the speed is awsome but at the same without having a swiveling head it make placment so your not blasting corals a little of a pain. I kinda wish i would have went with some tunzes. I do feel like they are a little over priced for a power head. You can acheieve good random currents with constant speed power heads for half the price, just takes a little more tinkering and they arent quite as attractive. This is just my experience with them, I know alot of people swear by them. Im happy with mine, not really blown away with them though.

Yeah- I hear ppl don't like the stationary aspect- but my return lines are on the opposite side of the tank.... so I figured I could change up some of the flow with those.....?

I had two of them, both GEN 2, and bought both used. I really liked them for the undertow, the different modes and syncing ability, but there was always a little too much noise when they would ramp up. After breaking one of my magnets, trying a bearing upgrade to make them quieter, I decided to buy two Tunze 6105. I like these way better. You can angle the powerhead, unlike the mp40. They also come with 3 different jumpers (12v, 18, 24V) and two flow nozzles to choose from. Most of all, they are much quieter than mp40.

Very cool! Do you guys as owners think I could achieve that "wave" effect over the 48"inches?

I would say yes. I have a 6 foot tank and can do it but as I said I have a MP40 & MP10. That said I think the reef crest mode is the best.

Love mine, just gotta find the sweet spot meshing the dry and wet side to keep from having noise issues.
Reefcrest mode works best for me.
You might not get a true wave going, but you will get nice random flow, and absolutely 0 chance of ever having stray voltage in tank from them.

Sounds like positive feedback from everyone. Does anyone have a favorite mode? I hear a lot of talk about "reef crest"
