To be a pico, or not to be

My father and I set out to create a small acrylic all in one tank.

      Dimensions of display
      (LxWxH) 14.75"x9"x9"

      Dimensions of sump
      (LxWxH) 10"x3"x14.75"

Now this is a little over 5 gallons. However because the display is just under 5 gallons I'm calling it a pico! Haha.

      Equipment
      - 50w heater
      - Par38 LED bulb thanks to Sam!
      - 2 maxi jet 600's (on a timer only one will be on at a time)
      - in tank media basket
      - 7 pounds of live rock
      - 8-9 pounds of live sand

Water tested.. Live rock and sand will go in tomorrow..

It has some blemishes. But not bad for a first time I think

To be a pico, or not to be

Thanks! Yeah. I decided to tank a little pico to my apartment. It'll be a softy and LPS tank. It was really simple to do. Just a table saw, acrylic sealant from melevsreef.com, a belt sander, and some clamps. Well maybe easy for such a small tank. If you have the time it's great to do. I was sick of the cookie cutter picos and their high cost. This tank was under $100. The acrylic was the most exspensive about $48 total. The par38 was $45. Great deal. I can't wait to put some livestock in this little thing!

I would definately be interested in some zoas! I'll probably be looking for some frags in the next few weeks. Right now for the tank I have a Teal candy cane, radioactive zoas, blue/peach zoas, and Hollywood stunners. Let me know what kind of zoas you have. I'm interested in some bright colors

Even one maxi is too much for my tank.. I'm going to get Hydor pico evo's. two of the 70gph versions.

Yasha and pistol are situated in the tank. They found each other and are probably hanging out digging a hole behind my rock work.. Hopefully when I get a smaller pump they might dig some caves up front haha

Coral update.. The stunner chalices I got a couple weeks ago I already had to frag and put on a plug. I have a Duncan in there. 2 morphs of zoas. A two headed candy cane. Most recently the chalice that takes the cake..

To be a pico, or not to be

Yeah destroyed my sand bed haha. I will put up a full tank shot this weekend. I will be picking up a a nice enchinata. I still need to pick up that second power head so my filtration will be working properly. Right now it's just water changes every week. Which is sufficient for a small tank Ive heard..

To be a pico, or not to be

Was not able to get the enchinata this weekend. However I have two lobos in my frag tank. Ones about an inch the other is about 3 inches. The larger one my dad had.. It looks like its losing a little color. once it's in my tank ill take pics.
Oh and I added two Duncan's and a red mushroom I had lying around.

Says I can't post any pics I've reached my taptatalk limit? Anyone know anything about that.
