I'm going to assume, that you can access under the tank from the dining room?
From the side? (not that you need to, but... in case of a leak or ....?)
Dave and I talked about that, we decided to have a larger access from the garage wall and leave the stand completely seamless. I have a 14month old...she would find any opening.

Is the "access hole" going to route all plumbing and some electrical?
It routes all the plumbing. The electrical runs out through an access panel above the tank, positioned at the midpoint and hidden by a trap door.

Are you going to only stock it with fish, or some coral too?
Haven't decided yet... probably some of both. I like corals but really like fish that eat corals.. somethings gotta give.

I love "through wall" plumbing and such, it really makes the tank super quiet.
The dining room is connected to the rest of the house, makes a very open floorplan so quite was a necessity.

Thanks for following along. I got some close up shots (with a phone) of the Vega EXT brackets and wiring. Thought it might be helpful to anyone looking for an alternative to mounting the traditional way. The tank is snugged up to the wall (by design) leaving zero room behind the tank for the long metal brackets. My dad cut them down, reversed the mounting hardware and screwed them to a 1x6. Quarter round molding finished off the edges and was used to hide to wires.Name: EXT bracket.jpg

Here is another close-up of the bracket. In the far light (slightly out of focus) you can see the wire drop in behind the molding. It courses along to the middle of the tank and passes through a conduit into the garage.

This gave me a great idea with my Vegas! Thank you for posting! I was trying to figure out the best way to mount them. I am going to attach a piece of wood to the wall and paint it to match the wall and attach the vegas just like you did to the wood.
