Ron, what would you recommend I should get 50w run at 100w or 100w run at 200w. I have a 96"x24"x30"t tank. Mostly softies and a few sps mid to upper level. And clam on sand bed. And also how many do I need 3 or 4 multichip?
If I were you, I would get the 100 LED version. For a tank that tall, you'll need more more power for bottom placement. I recommend one 100LED Dream Chip for 24"x24" square. You'll need four 100LED Dream Chips.
Keep in mind, as a group, we have not decided which way we will go. I'll base it on a tally when we reach 50pcs. We can't have both unless we reach 100 pcs total.

Update: Please respond to the email I sent out with type and qty.
Example:
Type: 50LED
Qty: 3
Please respond to the email. Please do not PM me this information. I will file your email away for tracking purposes.

Dear fellows,
As far as I understand, the dream led requires different voltage for every channel. For my reef and according to my calculations I will need to use 4-5 50Watt multi chips in order to cover my 500lit main tank (140*60*60) from one corner to the other.
The question now is if it would be possible to connect every channel in a row and use dimmable drivers for every channel separately. Thus, I would be able to control the exact spectrum that is required to cover both my corals needs and my preferences regarding the visual result (I like a lot the blue-purple).
Here is draft diagram for your understanding
Following the above mentioned diagram, we will connect the leds in a row. As Lasse is advising, we could use a quick fuse for every channel and between every led and thus we will secure our unit against any unexpected reason which will cause led burning out.
The question to experts is, is it possible the above scheme to work? If yes is anyone in position to calculate the exact driver that we will need to use for each channel per led and then to multiply the voltage by 3,4,5 or as many leds as we want to use ?

Are we close to our target ?? we need more people reach our goal?
i would like to order some drivers. Just in case this group buy takes some kind of extended amount of time. i am wondering if could use eln 60-48 drivers 1 for each channel. 2 chips so around 700 ma if they were run in parallel? That way if this were to never get off the ground ... cant imagine why, but.. i could still use the drivers to run a 3w array. just dont know if the voltage of that driver will work any ideas.
Update:
9 people total that responded with a type and qty.
100LED = 12 pcs
50LED = 6 pcs
We need =/>50 pcs of one or the other, but not both.
If you haven't responded to the email with a type and qty, I've left you off the list until you do.

i have a 120 tank, 48x24x24, so i guess i would be interested in two 100w's or 4 50w's, guess running lenes on them. when would this be near happening?
Hey Bob,
I'd recommend, 2 x 100LED Dream Chips. This will allow you more flexibility with power. Especially, with a tank that deep, you do not want to be power limited.
These are five channel multichip panels. Depending on your setup, you will be able to vary the intensity of each channel.

hey there. i just read the whole diy multichip thread on RC, found this on google and would like to know whether its possible to take part in the group buy if coming from europe. how is this handled? is the whole shipment sent to a single person or do they ship them seperately?
greetings and thanks for your effort!
martin
Hi Martin,
Yes, the group buy is still open, but the actual buy does not go through until we reach people to gain a 50 piece commitment. At the moment we are less than half way to 50pcs.
The Dream Chips will be sent directly to each buyer when assembly is completed.
Please PM me your information when you are ready.
Thanks,
Ron
I'll post up the latest count this weekend.
