Super Reef Octopus XP1000SSS 6" Space Saver Cone Skimmer

I just purchased this skimmer two days ago and my initial reaction is this skimmer is of up most quality. The Bubble Master pump is extremely quiet and appears to be very well built. The collection cup fits snugly into the body with and is sealed with an o-ring. I don't like the drain configuration though. I wish they had used an elbow like my Bubble Magus had. The bubble density in the skimmer chamber is very dense and the adjustment of the water level is very easy with the gate valve. The gate valve allows for very small adjustments which lead to a finely tuned skimmer. After the 1st night, the skimmer was pulling skimmate. It also was NOT producing any micro bubbles in the sump or tank. I will report back after a few weeks of operation!

After a few days, I've started to notice that dialing this skimmer in is a bit of a pain. You need to run the water level much lower than much skimmers or it floods. It also responds to frozen food and goes nuts.

I considered getting the SRO XP2000SSS, but went with the SRO XP2000int, and I love it. Like Jeff mentioned, it runs at a low water level (5in). I made a DIY elbow for the output; however Coralvue does sell this as an accessory, which they should just include in the purchase of the skimmer. My bubble blaster pump does have a bit of a hum to it, probably the loudest thing on my tank.

Keep us posted on this exact model Jeff.

I had an acrylic skimmer stand built that is a little taller than the eggcrate one I made. Since raising it up more, it has been skimming much better and the flooding issues stopped. I'd say it's sitting in about 5.5" of water.
