I have taken lighting measurements (using a quantum flux light meter) of my tank and I have about 150 at sand and about 300 middle way of tank and 1300 at water level. Lights are 10 inch off water, 2x 100led dream chips running channels at 850ml. What could I keep in this tank with this lighting. Tank is a 120, 48x24x24, DIY LED lighting, SPS, Softies? I was told that this reading is about 10 to 20% less than actual because it is LED.

The normal "saying" is that 200 PAR is enough for most corals. With the dream chip you also have a lot of wavelengths in the 400 - 470 nm range which is important for the photosynthesis of the zooxanhelles. It is also true that most PAR meters is not reliable at these wavelengths - you will read a too low PAR.

I think you can have all type of corals in this tank. Do you use lenses?

      Sincerely Lasse

Hey Lasse, I have a question on lenses. I'm looking at some on ebay, they advertise them as Adjustable, 10 to 90 degrees.
and they come with reflectors. How are these Adjustable? I understand you can change the angle by moving the lenses away from the chip, but if the reflector is attached to the chip and lenses to the reflector, I don't know how you would change the degree angle?

I do not know either how they work - i doubt they are adjustable if you have a fixed length of the reflector

I saw your discussion with mr Wlison about this and how to attach them. I´m not sure whats happen but I had some problems when I use an epoxy to attach the reflector to the chip (burned chips). I only use AC-RC:s Heatproof Silicon Adhesive for the moment - no problems.

      Sincerely Lasse

Ya, I even posted the question to the seller, and all of a sudden they don't seem to understand what I'm asking I know AC-RC sells a specific degree, but I'm not sure how they get to say 60 or 90 degree lenses. I think the dome lenses are basically the same, so to change the distance between the chip and lenses would need to be in the reflector size??? If you set the lights up shining at the floor like in your test posts, do you measure the diameter of the circle at a given distance to figure what degree the lenses are? THANKS---Rick

Just and FYI, the current lens AC-RC is selling now already has the lens attached to the reflector. All you have to do is attach the reflector to the chip.

      Hey Rick,

Can you post a link of the adjustable lens.

The reflector is attached to the LED carrier. The lens is attached to a device that moves it to and from the reflector. It works as one unit.

      Hi Ron,
Ya here is the link. All these ebay sellers advertise as Adjustable. I understand that if you move the lenses away or closer to the chip that the degree angle would change. My understanding is that the reflector is attached to the led carrier and I thought that the lenses were directly attached to to the reflector. What do you mean by the "the lenses are attached to a Device"? I don't see a device in the sellers pics. I looked at AC-RC site and for their 90's, they show a total height of 26.5mm and their 60's look to be 29.5, so the further the lenses from the chip the smaller the angle. The AC-RC are not advertised as adjustable, so it looks that the reflector size determines the angle degree. I wouldn't think they would make a lot of different size lenses, the solution would seem to be in reflector size. I sent this question to a couple different sellers they say "By changing the distance between the lenses and led". If they are all attached to each other... HOW do you adjust? Here is a link to pages of so called adjustable lenses. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=led+lens+100w

PS. What ever came of the V2?---Rick

      Hey Rick,

That was totally different than what I had in mind. There is a design on the horizon as I described. Not too far from the design you see here.
Should be available in roughly 2 months.
