      Hi

My built has been delayed for a while but as I know now I will continue in January. I expect to get my new 50 watts Dream Chip this week and i´m going to do some test of them. I´ll be back

      Sincerely Lasse

      Hi all,

I decided to use an Atmega328 as a slave MCU on the dream chip controller board - for generating PWM and for temperature management.

      The advantages:
      • Atmega328 is available in a DIP version, so soldering is easy (0.1" pin spacing). Also, you can use a DIP socket to avoid soldering the IC directly.
      • Atmega328 is the core of the Arduino Uno => lots of community support
      • If you have the DIP socket version of the Uno, you can use that board to program the Atmega328's for the controller boards.
      • You don't need a lot of PWM channels on your main Arduino - so it doesn't have to be the Mega2560.
      • Selected light level and temperature management continues to work even if the main Arduino is off line.

      Disadvantages:
      • As far as I can see, PWM is limited to 8 bit per channel. I guess resoulution will be sufficient though, because we have 5 channels on the dream chip.
      • The Atmega328 is not as cheap as dedicated PWM generator ICs, but it is still only about $8, so I guess it's no big deal.
      • You need to flash program the Atmega328. Good news is this can be done using another Arduino.

I ordered the parts for the initial experiments and I set up the development environment. Based on the experiments, I'll revise the PCB design. I hope I'll have some time to do it during the Christmass holidays.

      Merry Christmass,
      Esben

Esben I am following along with great interest.

Please post your details as you try your experiment.

Got my 100w led dream chips today, tried the 62mm lens from ac-rc and they don't fit, they are supposed to fit 20w-100w led from ac-rc, e-mailed them waiting to hear from them.

The same thing with mine, the lens reflector does not fit. The pins don't line up properly due to the thickness of the chrome plating. I took a small file and very gently ruduced the chrome thickness on the inside of the pins. The I took a 3/32nd drill bit (in my fingers, not the drill) and slowly removed the excess silicone adhesive that dripped into one of the holes. I only did this on the hole that lined up with the single pin side (not the double pin). This widened the hole by about 1/32" or less. The reflector now fits like a glove.

If you need pics I can post.

this is alans reply (It must fit with dream chip. Many of them were bought but so far no one complain. Please try to press the reflector harder.
      Alan)

My lens have two pins on each side as well as two holes on each side of chip, i already thought about making the pins smaller.

      DIY Multichip LED Build

One of my lens reflector also did not fit, the reflector pins on one side is supposed to be angled slightly, on one of my reflectors pins on both sides are straight.

What glue or silicone are u using to fix you lenses to the chip?

I am using the clear heat proof silicone adhesive sold by ac-rc. I ordered it at the same tile as the lens.

I also use the AC-RC heat proof silicone.

I got my two 50w dreamchips today. I will be driving them with 10 Ldd 600H powered by a 360w 48v switching power supply. I understand each channel can be driven up to 700mA, but I wanted to play it safe and got the 600mA LDD drivers. Now I just need to wait to get my PCBs made.

I'm running a 100 led chip, and both of my blue channels have a LOT of white in them, they look more like a cool white than a 450 and 445 chip

      anyone else have this problem?

I am going to be using 3 of the 100 led chips over my 150g. I am thinking about using the Meanwell LDD-1000H drivers (15). What should or could I use to power them?

      Thanks.
      Dean
