      Blackrock Reef Frag Racks

I began my search for a quality frag rack, one that looked more appealing to the eye than your standard egg crate with some magnets glued to it. I also have a very large turbo snail that seems to always crawl on my eshopps frag rack and I'd come home to my rack laying sideways on the sandbed and sometimes frags that had fallen out. Nothing like having your $300 chalice frag fall out and get stung by another coral and die. After inquiring in a thread for the best frag rack available on the market I was directed to BlackRock Reef for both a rack that has stronger magnets and some sex appeal to it.

      http://www.blackrockreef.com/about.html

I decided to go with the larger rack option (MR3-L) which comes in black and is 8.66"L x 4.33"W x 1.81" H and is rated to attach to glass up to 1/2" thick. Cost was $35 and that includes shipping. I had received some feedback that these racks could possibly take a while to be received or question if the owner (Daniel) was still actually making these. I received a confirmation for my order and had a follow up from Daniel I believe a day or two later advising that my rack would ship out a few days later on a Monday via USPS. Wednesday afternoon the frag rack arrived boxed well and in great condition. I've very impressed with the quality and look of the frag rack. I've emailed Daniel to see if he could make a custom rack that is longer with possibly 5-6 magnets as I would like to get more frags on the rack itself. With some of the plugs I use it's very hard to have them right next to each other unless you are primarily having SPS frags.

The rack also comes with a business card that provides the warning about the strength of the magnets and a reminder to keep them out of the way of children. I'll let you know if that darn massive turbo snail knocks this rack over but from the looks of it this thing its not coming down without me physically doing so. Great buy!

      Pros: It's sexy
      strong quality magnets
octogon shaped holes - easy for variety of sized plugs to fit

Cons:holes are fairly close so depending on your frags you may need to have an empty frag hole between plugs
price (this could also be a Pro considering the quality IMO)

update, such a nice rack that I ended up getting another one. Turn around time was about 1 1/2 weeks from the time I ordered to receiving it.

Did you ever get a reply back regarding custom sizes?

Daniel never responded to that question. I know he had a family emergency a while back but still responded and shipped my 2nd rack. I didn't press the issue on the custom rack option with him at the time.

I just ordered the large frag rack. I'll keep everyone posted on the process.

      Re: Blackrock Reef Frag Racks

In received my Frag rack the day after it shipped. Not bad for free shipping! Its a nice looking rack and the magnets do a great job with my 1/2" glass. The downside is the holes are super close together. You'll want to use small plugs with this rack.
