      Return Pumps

Would like to hear some feedback on what return pump to go with. I have an ehiem 1260 on my 90 gallon, and recently bought a 1262 for my 120 upgrade. Just wondering what you guys think, this came up in chat earlier and some good feedback was brought up on mag-drives so thought it would be a good idea to share. Let us know what you think....

Not sure if you are looking for feed back on return pumps in general or not but I have a mag 12 in my sump and it is vertually silent with the pad that comes in the box with it.

I also ran a mag 9.5 on a 125 I had before for 3 years with no issues. I didn't have the pad with it so it was a little loud on the glass sump.

Eheim's are great and I have been running Oceanrunner by AquaMedic for about the past 3 years with no issues. They are actually a tad more efficient according to the specs and a bit cheaper as well.

I'd be curious to hear anyone that has used the Water Blaster (Bubble blaster)

eheims are some of the best. but double the price of mag's though. I have a mag and it is too loud. probably will get an eheim.

To bad they don't make the Oceanrunners any more. I know the Eheims are more money( you get what you pay for) but IMO they run quieter, and are more efficient. I don't know why people are so concerned about having 1000 gph return pump.... You shouldn't be using your return pump for flow anyways unless you are running multiple.

When did they stop making them JT...I just bought a back up not too long ago Did Aquamedic get out of that space or just going to come out with a different product?

cough (thata boy pete) Ive been running my mag 18 on my 90(plus 2 1050 evos) for a couple months now, nice strong pump. When your talking efficency please tell how much youll be saving at the end of the year? half the price of a eheim means more money towards other eqipment to me.

You have your opinion and I have mine.I've had Mags, Eheim, Oceanrunners, and Quietones. I prefer the Eheim.
I don't use my return pump output in my circulation calculation.

Remember Return pump is use to circulate water from your Display tank to your filtration system aka sump a high speed of water circulating between display and sump will not result in a good filtration of the water other means of equipment such as Power head or close loop is needed to produce surface water movement for aeration and under water current, I use a Mag12 for my return pump and 2 koralia 4 for water movement. IMO

Eheim has had a solid rep for a long time, all I use, I figure that part of my system has been worked out w/ little left that could be improved on.
The Oceanrunners were good for the money too, and like Marlin said actually a tad more efficient, but they are bigger, and I know they either stopped making them or I think someone was going to take over that design going off vague memory/hearsay.
I would stick w/ that 1262 and focus on other gear, wait for feedback on the new pumps coming out and see how they stand the test of time(which Eheim has already done)
I also agree w/ only using return to carry water from sump to display, 3-5x turnover seems best, dwell time for skimmer, less chance of micro bubbles, and prefer low flow for fuge.

I have used Quietone pumps in the past. I have experienced start up(clicking) issues when starting the larger models 4000 and above.
