No need to add ro water to scripps. how much water do you add to what amount of scripps. something is really wrong with you tank and things dying are just going to make it worse.

Why do you believe it's too salty?

      First... Scripps isn't too salty.

Second... I believe your more then likely overdosing iodine. It's NOT needed to dose, and when you do... you need to measure for it. Are you testing your water for iodine? ... if anything, you can does iodide but it too can be toxic when overdosed.

... I'm willing to bet it's an iodine overdose (from what you've been explaining as symptoms)

      Why?

And, do you have an iodine tester?

What tester are you using and what are the results? Also, I would take JA's advice

i would do a 50% water change with scripps water and don't change or add anything to it. keep doing this untill the tank starts to look better.

Don't add anything chemically to your tank until you read about it. Look at the chemistry forum on reef central. Plus don't listen to anything from a LFS without reading before you impliment it. (they can give good advice but you should research before you do)

One of the best examples is Paul B who has been keeping reefs longer than almost anyone. He has done some very impractical things that have worked for him but might not for most.
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2171862 this is a good read from one of the most experienced reefers out there.

i actually wasnt testing for iodine and for other test other than salinity i take my water to the store to get tested. I've been doing this for about 2.5 years now and my best experience was when I only added reef accelerator and did water changes without adding anything else to my tank when i was rolling with a 20 gallon. ever since i switched to a 55 gal nothing budges as you guys can see my tank is pretty bright so i don't know if light is the issue. when i had the 20 gall the purple algae was growing out of control on the tank walls i had to scrape it all the time and the sand bed was covered in it also. now in the big tank it barely grows on the tank and when it does half of ot turns white as for the sand bed it doesn't really have a chance to grow because my goby is always turning the sand.

Thank you, I will do that water change on friday. And to clarify what you guys are saying, is i have no need to add RO to scripps water. what about when the water evaporates do i add RO then to bring the level back up or just add more scripps water and as for the xenia I really like that coral so how do i go about adding it to my tank

I just read that one of the post on that link and the first one seems to be exactly what my symptoms are, too much copper in my water from adding too much of the two part calcium mixture too fast to my tank. I was advised when i bought it to add it everyday to get my water to harden to cut down on the green algae grown on the front of my tank but after a while i cut it down to every other day.

ro as evaporated water need to be replaced. but don't add when you do water changes. use straight scripps. You do need to get your salinity back to the proper level.
