      LED PENDANT - 60W / 120W, 90° Lens, tons of shimmer. Interested?

      Okay folks...

It was asked of my by a fellow reefer to inquire about ordering some LED pendants. You know... the type like Ecoxotic sells (or other "aquarium lighting" companies), which are high-dollar (of coarse, Ecoxotic and others like Orphek are a bit refined in comparison - but they charge HIGH dollar for that refinement).

When I speak of those, with "refined" pendants. I'm speaking to the fact they have made reflectors or optics to attach to the pendant. The physical pendant and driver is nearly the same as what I'm going to show you in this "group buy". The refined portion of their pendants, is usually a CNC machined (out of aluminum or some type of alloy) end cap. It's sole purpose is to look nice, change lenses, provide a reflector, carry their logo...etc. If your wanting a pendant that doesn't cost too much, and works VERY well, then... I think I might be able to help you out.

      For reference, here's Ecoxotic's website; http://www.ecoxotic.com/aquarium-led...-pendants.html
      And Orphek's website; http://orphek.com/led/orphek-products/dif-pendants/

These pendants we're thinking of buying, are of coarse made in China. As are most of the pendants I've already mentioned. However, the 100W pendant that I'm am going to show you is a no-frills version.

      Here's the item that we'd be buying;

It comes in BLACK or GREY.

      It's a 100W, LED pendant that is available in three LED Chip colors of choice;
      • 12,000K (bright white)
      • 460nm (blue)
      • 6500K (cool white - great for plant growth)

The built in optic, allows for 120° of lighting spread.

The pendant has a built in driver, and is only connected via a 110V power cord. There is no dimming capability, and you'd need to use a controller or timer to turn the light on/off. If you were to use this over a display tank, a white and a blue would be needed. You could turn the blue on before the white to simulate sunrise. And vice-a-versa for sunset.

UPDATE: I am no longer ordering this style of pendant... see most recent post for available pendant, pictures...etc.
CLICK HERE for most recent update ----> http://www.sandiegoreefs.com/forums/...525#post756525

At this point, I need a minimum order of 10 pendants.

      The Pendant's cost is $365ea
(that includes shipping, any import tax, and money transfer fees).

... we're looking for serious buyers, who want INCREDIBLE shimmer over their tank. PM me for questions.

THESE specific Lights? Not that I know of. I've never had them before.

Of Pendants? Yes... tons. Just do a search on "Ecoxotic Pendant".

I'm really curious how these lights will compare to the other brands of 'cannon' style LED's especially in the heat they put out.

Awesome lights, and having sold and worked with more cannons than I can count, I can definitely vouch for their coral growing capabilities.

What would be an example of a controller to dim these guys? I'm very interested.

Yes they do. Here's a link to Ecoxotic's FLICKR page which has all the pro-photos from the install/photoshoot; http://www.flickr.com/photos/ecoxoti...th/7019788837/
... they RETAIL for $549.00ea PLUS the remote LED Driver at $89.00. $638 plus tax of $49.44 = $687.44ea Compare at $365ea for the ones I'm trying to group buy. Not too bad of a price. If you look into the Orphek brand... they are up in the $800s each! All due to their "special" chip, and refined chip cover (or lens).

Me too Mark. Hence the order, and wanting to try them over my 240gal Reef Display. I figure I'd try 2 blue and 2 white, to see how they did.

Again, they are NOT "dimmable". The driver in the light is not dimmable... so any controller you use, will NOT dim the light. I would have to special order the lights with dimming capability... and, I've not even inquired about dimming, nor do I know if it's even an option for THIS pendant or not. I will ask, just to confirm IF and only IF it's an option.

GOOD News for those who like "dimming" features....

The manufacturer CAN make the light dimmable!
... How?? Not sure yet. We'll see what they come back with. I'll update when I know more.

IT WILL cost more to make them dimmable. Not by much... about $20-$40 (depending on order) per pendant.

Sample order going in early part of this next week.
... I'm going to order (2) dimming, and a non-dimming for another SDReefer.

      Anyone else interested?

Sample order will be shipped sometime around June 5th.
I should have it on hand that week, hopefully by June 8th.

This order will have (2) 100W dimming pendants (for me to test/sample).
One of the pendants will be white, and one will be blue. Both controlled via a DIMMING CONTROLLER that I've ordered to work WITH the 100W pendant.

Cost was a bit more then anticipated due to small order quantity, and the "dimming".

Very eager to test these out over my display.

Totally saw this late, and not trying to create any sort of drama/controversy but has everyone seen these guys. I was toying with the notion of getting a couple of these lights as well (I thought these were at AW over the large cube).

      Brian,

To avoid ANY confusion; Please start your own thread for discussing the 50 watt (non-dimming) Kessil pendant.

      Thanks!
