Size is a factor. If they are small enough to bag, bag them with oxygen not regular air and drive them back to San Diego. They'll make the trip as long as the vehicle they are being transported in is air conditioned.

well if I were Jimmy i would pick the big one, bringing home 8 small one is not worth the long drive, time and gas

Lets see em. That will definitely help to determine how much effort you wanna put into it.
San diego koi club is having an auction. Maybe bring them all keep the ones you like, auction the rest. Bag with air in it then boxed would be the way I would go no matter their size. Water just covering their body and the rest of the bag filled with air. My 2 cents.
I have gotten three 15-17 inch koi flown from hawaii shipped to me ALL in one bag and they all lived. Almost 20 hours in the bag together.

I would pick the best quality koi and not by their size. I have seen 12 inch koi sell for three thousand bucks and 36 inch koi that you could not give away. In koi its all about quality. It is very easy to get all the "pond grade" koi you want for free here in san diego.

I have some in Rancho San Diego I may be selling or for trade (credit at the stores).. or may donate them to Balboa. Roughly 20-24 inches as I weed them out by colors now and have some new ones coming in this week.-Edward 619 247-3767 Also have some turtles and channel cats that need to go, cats are 2 feet roughly
