It is on the sand. The structure on the right is connected to the base by a acrylic rod, the middle structure has a good size base, and the left structure is pretty flat on the bases. I dont do sifters any more. They make a mess and can cause issues. This isn't my first rodeo...lol

Lol, rodeo! I like that name, fits it pretty well sometimes! I just had to re-do my cube
because I was having trouble getting good flow through it, thought I had it figured out
until I woke up in the morning with half the sand on one side of the tank from too much
flow and a rock pile had collapsed! Bummer, now all rock goes strait on egg crate first and I
do not use fine sand anymore! Lesson #2,457 figured out the hard way! lol
Last night I got my RKL with SL1 Module mounted. So far I have the temp probe connected. I will work on the SL1 tonight. I left room for one more module down the road. Since this is peninsula, Im not worried about this taking up to much space, I still have 4 other doors to get into the stand..

Looking bad to the bone dude !!! Like the rock work! Making me jealous! My tank isn't here yet .... Keep those pics coming!
Loving it bro......
Getting me excited to start working on the 150. Was feeling burned out there for awhile.
I know, I know.............
I gotta say the peninsula is so cool for the access as well as scaping/viewing.
One step closer. I got the canopy yesterday, and installed the lights. Almost complete....
