      Bi-Color Angel hard to keep?

I picked up a few things from the LFS today... 2 ocellaris, sand sifter, snails, 2 chromis, and a bi-color angel

All is well, I also picked up a RBTA from another member and it's been extended for the better part of the day...

6 hours into it... roughly 1 hour ago, the bi-color started swimming a lot more (had been hiding all day). It is lying on it's side a, for longer and longer periods of time, appears to be breathing quite heavy, and his face is darkening up. ***? Are these hard to keep, is this just a dying guy, or is he just freaking out? Everything else in the tank is doing just fine (it's a brand new tank).

      TIA!!

How did you acclimate them? For how long?

you need to drip acclimate the fish. most of the corals you can float and drop in, but fish has to be dripped for 45 minites or so. at least this is what i've been told.

      ahhhh....

still wonder why he was good to go for 6-7 hours though. Bottom line something's not right.

Anyone know if Tri City has a fish guarantee?

From what I read, it is totally normal for an improperly acclimated fish to go a day or two and then die. Again, no personal experience. I've only read about it.

Matching salinity is key. If the salinity of the water in the bag matches that of your tank, you should be able to drop the fish in after temperature aclimation. But if the salinity is off, you need to slowly acclimate the fish to your tank's salinity.

You should have drip acclimated everything. I usually will drip acclimate anything I put into my tank for about 1 - 2 hours depending on what it is. Fish can sometimes be acclimated for a little less but I wouldnt go any less then about an hour or so. Fish dont necessarily die right away and can take sometimes days to show any signs of stress and/or death. Also if your tank is brand new there could be cycle issues or water chemistry issues. You should add things slowly to your tank.

Also for fish the best thing to do is set up a quarantine tank and over the span of a week or 2 slowly acclimate them to your tank water by doing water changes. This is also a prime opportunity to watch for any signs of disease or stress and try and correct it before introducing the fish to your main tank. A small 10-20 gallon tank and bio filter usually can do the trick. The investment and time is well worth it IMO.

i have a bi colored from tri city tropical. Ive had it for 3 months and is doing great. I dripped it for 1 hour. after 30 min I scoop out as much water as possible and throw it in the sink. then wait another 30 min of it being dripped and then place it into my tank.... be careful though these angels are very aggresive......
