New Member and new to Salt Water

      Hello,

I am new. I've been checking things out here and decided to participate rather than spectate. I have a new SW 29 gal tank about 2 months old and it is technically my first. fish and inverts but no corals yet. Glad this site exists. I don't know where to go for things yet, only Petco and Southbay Tropical down here, but I am learning.

      Welcome,
Get out of the southbay for sw. Try aquatic warehouse (clairemont), Octupuss Gardens-clairemont (Ron will give you great advice), or Danny at Pet kingdom (sports arena). Always keep your eyes on the board, people will help you out. You will also pick up some nice deals on corals, inverts, and fish here. You will also be able to pick up live sand, live rock and equipement on this site cheaper then anywhere else. Good luck and once again welcome.

The folks on this board are great. Survival rate on coral from the stores I've experienced...about 70%; coral from fellow sdreefers...almost 100% survival rate. Welcome to the hobby, it can be quite addictive.

Yes, it is. I have already caught the bug. In fact, I think my wife has it worst than me. We set up the 29 gal a couple months ago and already she is talking about replacing it with a 100+gal. As you can see, I'm not quite sure how to react to that.

ron at Octopus Gardens (OG) is the best bet on Local fish Stores (LFS)

then back that advice up here. you can get pretty dependable advice on this site. in fact, it nevers hurts to ask about purchases here.

Pet Kingdom (PK) would be another resource. one of their employees is a member here and seems to be a pretty good guy (i have not met him) who wont steer you wrong.

Read bob fenner's book, the conciencious marine aquariast. read read read read read and hang out here on the boards before you start buying corals and realy getting into it. I could have saved a TON of money if I knew what I was doing the first time around.

It's great! I'm attending Brooks Institute of Photography and having a blast. Soon, I'll be setting up my coral operations again. Gald to hear the ric's doing well

My wife supports the hobby, but wants me to wait until we have a bigger place to upgrade my system.. then again, technically, i have TWO systems.... but ones a prop/holding tank.. not sure if that really helps...But i have a hawkfish in there (anyone want a hawkfish btw??).
