      Exclamation Emergency

My friends tank needs serious help. he had a really great set up going for awhile. like 3 yrs but now everything in his tank seems to be dieing, he has been neglecting his water changes and stuff so i dont know if that has anything to do with it and also he has had the same lightbulbs in his power compacts for 2yrs. i dont know his taank was looking so nice now its just slowly dieing. an suggestion would be great.

I'd suggest moving this post off the "For Sale" section, to the other part of the forum.

Other than that how about new bulbs and a water change?

Is that what I think that guy is doing in your avatar? *puke!*

Anyhow, first thing I would do is to test the water and see what the parameters are as far as ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphates, pH, and alkalinity. If you dont have the testkits for these, then see if you can bring a sample aquaticarehouse or OG. Check the salinity to see if there are any high changes. My guess since you mentioned his tank has been neglected, he probably let the salinity go up from evaporation. Diagnose what the prob is first, basically.

It's probably safe to say he should do water changes of 10-15% every other day for a few days to see if that makes much of a difference.

      good luck to ya.

Start paying attention to it. Do some water changes. Throw in some carbon, replace the light bulbs, tune the skimmer, pull out anything that's obviously dead/dying etc.

and I think you're not supposed to change the light bulbs all at once..do one or two first and wait a week or two....otherwise you can stress things out with an amount of light they're not used to.

Really? Looks like it's time for a change. Who has the best deals on replacement lights?

...and I poured a gallon of bleach in my tank and everything is dying. What do you think is wrong?

Considering how many true cries for help I see a fake one does not strike me as all that funny.
Sad part is I know of people who have had just this problem or people who have kept salt tanks for years who's tank crashes every six months. When you get them to talk about their maintenance you find they do everything fine except something dumb like replacing evaporated water with salt water not fresh.
