Nothing stops me from getting Scripps water. The water is filtered and should be fine.
Yes it is red tide
you're getting water that has been sucked up long before you go for water. those filters are huge and hold lots of water, so dont think that you're pulling dirty water
Except when there is red tide. Water is still fine, slightly high in nutrients. ok to use as long as you have a good skimmer and not already fighting algae problem in your tank. I have been using Scripps for almost 10 years now, but I always wait red tide to subside before getting water.

any way the water in the filter coming out now was affected by the sewage spill and the power outage a few weeks ago? I've been mildly concerned about that since I got water that weekend, but assumed either the impact at scripps pier would be negligible due to volume and time of dispersion or that the water i was getting was pulled before the spill...
water tests should be able to tell one way or another??
the water is pumped from 30 miles out anyways, the last company i worked for are the ones that installed the piping for scripps
good to know, thanks. somewhere I read (or misread) it was pulled closer in by the pier but that didn't make sense from a sediment standpoint
today I experianced the SAME brown WATER... and was told dont USE.
One worker told me that it " may be POSSIBLE RUST CONTAMINATION" from the pipes.
I found that after i ran the line for a few min the color improved. But i also noticed, the filters didn't seem to be in working order at the moment, the pipes contenting the filters # 1,2,3 where not in place today... i don't think ill be using any of this water.
Not sure how %100 my findings are, but i've spent too much to be cheap over something so little.
Well for me no problems just got 35 gal last nite
when its pumping, put it through a filter sock. that's what the scientists do over there, and they told me to do the same.
Yes it red tied I wouldn't use it unless your cycling your tank with fish or coral
How long does the red tide last? When is it ok to get Scripps water?
