I will look into it. I used chemi-clean, it helped for a while but cyano did not completely go away. I am hoping the skimmer will me reduce some the nutrients also. I recently started dosing MB7, and I think thats helping...

Looking to supplement my LED light with some T5s. Thinking of adding two of these fixtures. Anyone has any experience (good or bad) with these ? There just does not seem to be too many choices when it comes to dual-lamp T5s.

Look at the fluval T5 fixtures. Their very clean looking and have great spread for T5 units. The aquatic life units look kinda funky chicken imo.

I have the vertex led fixture too and added t5. I was going to add t5 fixtures but when using one aquaticlife dual t5 I decided to go with retro fit t5 kit and add a canopy. The main reason was the shadow created when the led hit the top of the t5 fixture. I needed to raise the t5's so I didn't get the shadow.

You are right. Fluval fixture is much better than the Aquaticlife. Thats what they are using at Aquatic Warehouse on their display tank(and I think also on their frag tanks). It does not come with the bulbs, so thats additional $100 expense, but might be worth it in the long run as they will last longer....

Thats a good point about the shadows. There is no way I can have a canopy....and fluval sits even lower than the Aquaticlife.

you can lay boards across the top of the tank where you want the fixtures to sit and see if it creates shadows.

Well, took the plunge and ordered two Fluval units. I think they are worth the extra money Fluval is asking for. They look better, they come with 2-year warranty (vs 1-year on AquaticLife) and the endcaps are water resistant...and the best part, I get to pick the bulbs, rather than using the stock bulbs that come with AquaticLife.

There are the bulbs I picked :-
      ATI Blue+
      ATI Coral+

      ATI Blue+
      ATI Coral+

and ATI Purple+ to play around with.....

Good choice of bulbs pk. The purple did not do much for looks or growth when I tried them. I use an equal mix of Blue+, Aqua blue special and Coral+ for my T5 tank.

I think ATI's Blue+ is probably the best T5 bulb out there, adds rich blue color to the tank and SPS. Looking forward to testing out the Coral+ bulb, which did not exist when I was using T5s few years back. Coral plus apparently falls somewhere between Aquablue Special and Blue+ (Growth and color).
