      Thanks Johnny

It was my fault. I over estimated my UPS ability to run the powerheads. But I am glad it all worked out. I liked the generator they provided. Did not realize they were so compact. Looks like I am going to purchase one.

The best ones I've used (and I've used them all my life - off-road racer, desert, camper guy) are the Honda EUXXXXi versions. For example, EU2000i. Even though costly, they'll run for hours on a half gallon of gas. My 2000i runs for 6hrs on half gallon, and is super quiet. A 1000i, would be more then sufficient for a full-blow tank and refridge/freezer... and run forever on a tank of gas. Always good to have one around... "just in case".

      Thanks for the info.

None of the sites online(or the ones I visited) show price for Honda 1000i generator. I think they are about $800 each. Any experience with Generac generators like the one below:

      $599 for 1400 watt.

I will still most likely go with the Honda though.

Nice system. I got a 5kW system installed 6 weeks ago and it has been offsetting ALL my electrical use in the house. Definitely makes the reef more affordable!

Its somewhere between 2.5-3" deep. I ordered 180lbs of Tropic Eden Reeflakes. But used only 165lbs of it. I think 150lbs should have been enough.

PK how do you like the Reefflakes? I was thinking about ordering some for my new setup but didn't know anyone on the West Coast that uses it. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Also have you noticed a big difference in your electric bill since switching over to solar?

In my 10+ years in this hobby, I think Reefflake has been the best substrate I have use. Its super white and comes in three different grain sizes so you can mix different bags to get the look you want. I went with "Reeflake" size. Which is similar to 40lb pink aragonite sold at AW.

Solar, was tuned on a week ago. My system is designed to produce 75% of my yearly consumption. In seven days, it has produced 125% of my consumption, but during winter months it will produce less, but in the end, it should produce what its designed at(covered under warranty).

If you or anyone else is interested in solar install, send me a PM. I can refer you to them. Referral fee is $500, which I will be more than happy to split with you.

If this was facebook, I would be "liking" this comment! Great way to take care of the fellow reefers out there and put some dough in thier pockets to spend on some frags!
