I'm getting closer to D-Day for my tank swap with a sump system. I have been trying to study up on the "pain-in-the-@$$-factor" vs. benefit of using filter socks. I'm particularly concerned because I am running a fairly small sump (aqueon proflex modular sump, model 1) - seen here:
It uses two, 200 micron socks. From what I'm reading, they clog up rather quickly, causing a water backup in the first chamber, and a lower flow rate overall. The obvious option is to remove the socks, but I'm fond of the idea of removing as many solids as possible, but I don't particularly care for changing out the socks every couple of days.
My "sock mod" concept is basically to cut a slit in each sock with the idea that a good portion of solid wastes will settle at the bottom of the sock, while the slits will prevent reduced flow from the result of clogging.
Anyone like the idea or think it's a useless idea - what do you all think?
