Scarlet Hermit Crab Special

The Scarlet Hermit Crabs (Paguristes cadenati), is an attractive red colored reef safe hermit crabs that does well in tanks bigger than 15 gallons. Somewhat larger than blue legs, they are rumored to get along better with other shelled inverts, although personally I think all hermits they carry similar risks. They consumer hair algae and detritus, are hardy and have a decent lisfespan. We have them for a short time for $1, with a maximum purchase of 10 per shipment.

I have two hermit crabs in my BC29. The scarlet hermit is a a very well behaved tank-mate, but the blue leg thats in there is a murderous fiend. I have caught him eating three trochus snails they were slackers anyway, have seen him attacking the scarlet hermit on a few occasions, and today I caught him trying to kill one of my turbo snails.

Hes pretty easy to catch, as hes always out and about in the tank. I dont think the fuge section of the tank is really big enough for a hermit, so I dont know what to do with him. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone want to take this murderous fiend off my hands?
