      Stand Work

How easy/hard is it to add ~3" of width to an aquarium stand? Do I just get a new top and add some 2x4's for bracing?

I turned my 50/60 gal stand into a 80gal stand by just adding one 2x4 on the back horizontally and two 2x4s to hold it up, plus corbels on each side. Its like a $10, 20min project. Unless you need it to be pretty.

You probably could add a 2x to each side and a new sub top.
Lots of wood glue, and gold coated screws.
      Pics for best advice.

If I do this, it will be a summer project so I'll post back here if it comes up. Just wanted to make sure it was reasonably easy before making plans and getting myself into something stupid.

It's doable, just will add weight, but not a real big deal.

I'm planning to completely strip the stand I have down to the frame and then skin it flush with some velcro or magnets. No more doors sticking out and getting in the way. Just want to pull off the front or sides to access the sump.
