      Unhappy ACANS r dying

Have a variety of acans. Recently moved from a 70gal frag tank 18inches high to a standard 90 gallon. Over the last couple weeks many of them have NOT been puffing up and tenacles are few and far. In the last 24 many are showing their skeletons. Otherfrags are doing well. Water quality is high and have dosed w/ luigis. Tank is under TEK5 lights x8 bulb.
Any thoughts? Not enough light? Not enough water flow?

I am going to assume that you meant you dosed with lugos? It is very easy to over dose iodine but don't think that would be your issue since everything else is fine. I have done a high concentration lugols dip before on acans that have started to receed, 3 drops per 1 cup of water, and have had about a 75% success with saving them. Also would recommend feeding them at night, turn of your flow for a little when you feed so the food stays one the head of the acan. Hope everything gets better.

I recently had an issue similar to what you are describing. I had low ALK which was around 6-7. I've bumped it up to 9-10 and all tissue recession has stopped. A couple of my colonies were almost lost but seem to he hanging in there.

Switched from MH to LED and 1/2 my acans didn't like it. The others puffed up while others recede over 2 months. Started feeding with Fauna marin LPS food and acan food and over the last week the puffiness came back and colors are coming back at a good rate and skeletons are no longer showing. I've stopped feeding my acans with mysis and so far this new food seem to do the trick. Give it a shot.

generally speaking, if acans stop puffing up ALK should be the first thing you check. IME low ALK, or low MG causing ALK swings is usually the culprit.

So I did the lugols concentrated the other night and and gave them a variey of food options without being disturbed...

I also did a 40 gallon water change w/ Scrips water. Oddly, my nitrates have greatly increase since the water change yesterday....

      Temp: 79.5
      Salinity: 1.025
      Calcium: 550
      Phosphates: 1.0 ppm
      Nitrates: 40+
      KH: 4dKH or 71.6 ppm

With regards to my Acans, they look no better, no worse over the last 24 hours.

Any ideas how to fix this is the first time I have had issues...

**The only change between tanks is now the Acans are 30 inches from the light vs 20 in the old tank..

      Update

So 2 months have gone by, water perameters remain the same, with the exception of nitrates as they have reduced to almost zero.
The Acans have not yet returned to their previous "puffiness," however, many of them have regained the lost tissue.

The question remains, what could be causing the lack of "puffiness?"

Again, the Acans were originally upset over a tank move. Same light system, is 10 inches further from the Acans. New tank is 6 inches taller, so 6 additional inches of salt water between light and Acans and lights are hung 4 inches higher.

My understanding is that Acans don't need/like alot of light, could this additional distance reduce the light enough to be ineffective for them?

      Any other thoughts?

Based on your Calcium levels, how is your pH and Alk running, I think these would be the first issues to check when dealing with finicky Acans.

Your KH is way low. I think it should be 8 to 12 (at least 140ppm). Hope I helped and good luck.

7dkh is way too low. I keep mine at 8.5 and even thats on the lower side. The most Ca I would have is probably around 440 too. Any reason for your perimeters being what they are?
