I think im going to drive to la to pick one of these up! whats the best day to go there? also i upgraded from my 40 to a 60cube will this light be sufficient for that>? how is the best way to mount the light?
nahtanoJ has his over a 60 cube and it is definitely bright enough. He also has sps on the bottom that seem to be coloring up.
should i go 180w or is the 120w sufficient?
I believe sps has a higher light need than 3 RBTA's so this should work if i decide to get one correct? First time going led's so just double checking. I am doing an LA trip in maybe 2 weeks to stop at the store to pick some up. Also Jon, do you think if i spray painted the fixture with some high quality black paint that it'll hold and not bubble up since it's only warm to the touch? Did you see any mounting rails there for sale?
Jon may not be on very often to answer questions. I've talked with him extensively about this fixture so I'll do my best to answer questions.
120w will work just fine, but if you have the money to go with the 180w then it wont hurt (just make sure to acclimate corals to the new intense light).
The 120w LED will be plenty light for your bta's. I'm not sure about spray painting but I'll check on the heat after a few hours of running. Why would you want to spray paint it though? The fixture is already black... I remember the store has wood enclosures for sale that cover up the light, but I didn't notice if they had any mounting rails.
Stock black? sweet, i thought it was white.
Went and got the LED light pendant! SOOOOO COOOOL!!!
color pop is amazing!!! Cant wait to see the growth!
This is jut what my 60 gal needed.
It look so good!!!
Going tomorrow to get one, Can't wait! If you want one too let me know, i'll pick one up for you if you paypal me.
That's cool of you Chris! I've been using Jon's and absolutely love it. I have it on a 30" 29g and it spreads fine.
Brad you think a 120w is enough if i don't plan on having sps but have 3 rbtas? I'll definately have to check the light spread while i'm there.
It will be plenty I think. I have the 120w on the 29g and have a couple easy sps that look fantastic on the bottom.

Last minute quesions, How did you do the acclimation Brad? At night, are you running all blues or leaving everything off. If all blue at night is it too bright for all the livestock or just a bit brighter than moonlights. Either way, I can't wait.
You'll have to turn everything off at night. You'll understand when you see them but the blues are WAY too bright. I only have Jons corals that have been under LED's for a few months now so I didn't have to acclimate them at all. When I do acclimate corals I usually just cut the light down to 4 hours a day and increase 1 hour every 10 days or so until I get to 8. A better way to do it is just raise the light higher higher off the tank and leave the same photo period if thats an option.
