Have seen and heard the same things. Was it the Scripps or would any water have helped?

In our db though we have tanks that have never had a water change (many years) and everything flourished, and tanks with meticulous maint. that had continuous problems.

Interesting, What type of tank flourish that never had any water change? What type of corals in the tank?

FYI- I inquired about phosphate in Scripps water a while back. Here is a link and the responses I received:

      - hanna po4 low range 0.01, haven't tested for nitrate
+1 Hanna LR Photometer po4 less than .01, sometimes non detectable.

      jcal,

Yes, thought that question was coming. I will look, but I recollect NOT SPS tanks. We do have in the db a statistically significant # of tanks with beginner to intermediate fish and corals (LPS, soft, mushrooms, zoas) that have practically speaking "never" had a water change.

I will look for instances of SPS tanks.

Also, we have exchanges with members here that have seen and experienced the same.

Note for us a "tank crash" is not sudden or dramatic change in physical or chemical water parameters, but a sudden or dramatic change in the health of livestock WHEN water paramaters have NOT changed meaningfully.

I would agree that some corals, like you mentioned would not require any water changes if you can replace the trace elements with products off the shelf.
