I'm not complaining. I'm happy to know they are so careful, but what a PITA it turned into....
So I get a message on my home phone on Wednesday (which unfortunatley I don't check too often) from AMEX about a fraud alert. This apparently happened on Monday. I call them back. They tell me some online company tried to authorize $1 on my account. Apparently this is a red flag, so they called me and halted any online transactions with the card, as a precaution. Great! Unfortunately, this means I need a new card, and new acct number, so my card is instantly deactivated. Well, crap, I just placed an order with DFS with that card. Sure enough, the next message on my machine is from DFS telling my my order did not go through (strange that their website doesn't process and authorize payments instantly like other sites).
This morning, I call DFS, and give them a new card number for my VISA. Well crap again, the card is so old, that the 3 digit security number on the back is barely readable, so I guess my best, and hang up with them. Meanwhile, I'm shopping for a new cell phone, and when I buy it online, I use this same VISA. I use the security code I gave DFS. Nope, doesn't work. Change the 0 to a 6, yup, works. Crap! Call DFS back. Sure enough, order didn't go through. I give them the new security code, and hang up.
OK, lunch time. I go buy a salad at VONS. Try my VISA. Declined Crap!! OK, pay with my checkcard, get back to the office and call DFS.... yup, order not processed, card declined. Call VISA. All this sudden use, plus multiple tries with incorrect security codes... you guessed it, red flags, which caused a hold to be placed on the card I get that all fixed, and call DFS AGAIN to tell them to run it one more time. I hang up, and call back 30 minutes later to confirm it worked. All good.
Fun times!!
