      curvilinear II

Here's my pico FW project that was just setup this week.
It's a glass cylinder, about two gallons, with white sand, white stones and of course "the stump" I found in Hell Canyon.
The plants are Anubias Nana Petite, Java fern & a little Xmas moss.
The lighting is one Seoul 5 Watt 6300K LED lamp in the MR16 light fixture from my 0.5G 0-edge pico. The little 0-edge had maintenance issues, so I took it down.

Fauna will be pretty limited since there is no filter or pump. I'm thinking two or three male Endlers (so the tank does not end up over stocked) & possibly CRS. The shrimp tend to breed out of control, so they might be a problem in a small non-filtered tank. Maybe a slower breeding species of shrimp might be a better choice if someone has suggestions.
I had also considered a couple of Killifish, instead of the Endlers, because I have a supply of fruit flies to feed them on. If anyone has ideas on a good species of Killiefish or other fish that can feed on fruitflies & not very likely to jump out of an open tank, it would be great.

Let me know what you think ... or if you have any ideas on improvements.

      -Rick

      * .... If anyone up around north county has any Frogbit, I would like to throw a couple in the tank to see how they do .... Thanks

      Slight re-scape today

Dropped by AW & picked 1 red cherry & 1 Green Caridina Shrimp.
Just wanted to try them out to see how shrimp do in this tank, hopefully one or both will do well.

I have all the frogsbit you want, and then some. I live right off the 56 between 15 and 5. If you are ever down this way, let me know and I'll put some outside my door for you to pick up.

As for fish, one of the smaller livebearer species (endler's is one, but there are some killer other varieties...AW has a few) would work. There are some pygmy/micro rasboras that would work well too.

Last, what about a tiny sponge filter behind the stump? filtration and aeration are never a bad thing. not sure about the green shrimp, but you can easily get by with no heater with red cherry shrimp and endlers and most other livebearers. I am low on endlers, but i'll have some more (for free) in a few weeks. I have plenty of red cherry shrimp.

Let me know how the crystal red shrimp does. Those typically get kind of fussy about water quality, and without filtration, might be an uphill battle.

      Hey boo,

Thanks for the offer on the frogsbit. I do get down to SD on Tuesday mornings and could pickup at your house. Just PM me with the location and best time.

The shrimp is a red cherry not a crystal red (my bad). It was in the same tank at AW with the green shrimp, not with the other red cherrys, so I'm hoping it's not going to drop young ones. The red cherry is out and seems to be doing fine, but haven't seen much of the green shrimp.

I've been considering a nano HOB filter or a small canister filter and might add one.

      Thanks again,
      -Rick

A little more re-scape & added frogsbit (donated by SoCalBoo) for a floating plant.
Frogsbit is also also supposed to help suppress algae growth ...

The light fixture is a MR16 halogen fixture I pulled off an old display fountain, then I a wired on a 12 volt power supply.
If you do a search for picture lighting some similar fixtures come up.
And the bulb is one superbrightleds.com Seoul 5 Watt 6300K LED

The plants are doing well so far and I also added a couple of groups of HC.
I have been dosing 0.5 mL of Excel daily & 0.5 mL of Flourish micro trace supplement every other day.
