Yep. I contacted cox cable and they say its is the satellite dish setup that is scrambling the frequency.. I need to remove the satalitte splitter and add a 5 -1000 mhz splitter..

If you had multiple boxes the splitter is normally going to be located close to the where the satellite was mounted, other than that you are just going to have to trace wires. Good luck.

How old is the house? I know the new ones with cat-5 usually have a main box (mine is in the master bedroom closet) where all cable/phone come together and can be sent to individual outlets from one central location. The cover almost looks like a fuse box. Check around for that.

Satellite splitters shouldnt be hard to locate. They look exactly like a regular cable splitter, but the frequency numbers will be different. More than likely it is going to be in the attic, above the fiberglass insulation, since satellite dishes are a heck of a lot newer than your house (unless you had the insulation replaced recently). Either that, or it is going to be on the side of the house outisde where the satellite dish is mounted.

In the attic, just follow one of the drops that go into the walls where your outlets are located. Follow it out of the wall and you'll eventually run into it. The cable wires should be the only wires that are round in shape.

I forgot to add, some houses, like my parents house, have the main line coming in inside of the garage (house built in 70's). They have one splitter there for their bedroom and living, and a third line going to the attic with a splitter there for the other two bedrooms. So check where the cable first comes into the house. It should be in the garage or on the wall outside of it.

The Cat 5 is the data. The box you are speaking of is the patch panel and possibly a switch depending on how your house is wired. The cable dosent have anything to do with that.

Justin, start from the telephone pole outside your house. You will see a group of wires coming from it to your house. Those wires consist of, power, phone and cable. Power will be obvious and not directly attached to the other two. One will look like a phone line and have a series of twisted pairs inside it. Thats the phone line. The last will be a circular, black cable with a single copper wire running through it. THAT is your cable line. It's called a coax. The easiest thing to do is find where the satellite people tapped into the existing cable lines. once you find that, the original cable from the street will be right next to it because they dont remove it. Just disconnect the satellite and re-attach the cable from the street. Boom, Bang Bam, you're done!
