      Who has experience with Frogspawn buds?

      Hi all;

      My frogspawn has grown from 2 heads to 6; and I'm now noticing I have quite a few buds underneath the main stalks.

      Has anyone popped these suckers off and tried to grow them from basically nothing? Do they still pull nutrients from the main head at this stage?

      Anyone?

      Here are a few of them... (A pain in the @$$ to take pictures of BTW)

      I believe that marlooney maybe the one to ask, I purchased a frag from him and it had to have been a bud glued to rock-

      yeah - i've had 'em fall off and start to grow - - but none that have ever fallen off have survived ... you just see them occassionally in the substrate -- for what it's worth.

      I broke off 3 from my main 8 headed piece. They are a PIA, used tweezers to break em off, on 2 I didn't use enough glue and they fell into the rockwork somewhere. The other is glued to a rock and doing great.

      Thanks to all!

      Maybe I'll start fragging it soon. I love how it looks when fully open; but with all the 'arms' fully puffed out; it covers an area bigger than my hand with outstretched fingers; needless to say it owns a large part of the real estate in my 55.

      Thanks to all who commented.

      One question to those who did respond to this; how large were your buds in relation to those shown above (2X the size of a rice grain) that DID survive?

      Again; thanks.

      i dremeled mine right off and glued very carefully. it's hard to tell the size of your buds because if when you get them on their own rocks out of the shadow of the mother colony they'll probably double in size in the 1st week. i recently sold about 8 of these. they were all about 1-1.5" in diameter. personally, i'd wait until the mother heads grow furter away and the flesh receeds from that area. i think on yours you might have success w/ small handheld cutters/nippers like the ones that are used for nails. just don't let the wifey, if you have one, catch you.

      Here's the deal... At first, the tissue from the frogspawn is up against the main stalk. you need to wait until the soft tissue is far enough away from the main stalk that you can cut it and mount it without touching that soft tissue. The biggest thing I can tell you is don't rush it. let it grow, and wait for it to get more space from the main stock. I've had some colonies that constantly threw off buds, and so some that never did.
