      DIY Canoy....HELP

Hey everyone.... I built my own stand [which looks like **** and weights 200 pounds] and i think everyone that walks into my room and has their Cornea melted is ready for me to throw together a canopy.

My light is hot....Hotter than the sun.
Hairs curl if you get too close to it kinda hot.

I don't know how it's possible to mount this sucker without setting my parents home ablaze.

the tank top measures just under 20 1/2" both ways.

I'm looking for a decent diy website or forum post that shows step by step on how to throw one together and what to do when your light is Megan Fox hot.

If anyone has any suggestions or knows a good link with photo's please help my out.

I have every tool imaginable in my garage I just need some instructions.

      Thanks again SDR

      -Anthony

      Tank and stand.

      top

      top and light

      side view.

Everything is HOB. Not sure if that helps at all.

It a small cube... it was like 34 gallons or something like that.

I think the best way to mount the light would be from the eye hooks it already has.

If you need anymore information please lmk.

Bro, that is a disaster waiting to happen! Just get some good 1" x 10" - 12" and cut 3 pieces. One for each side and one for the front. Nail them together. Cut 2, 1 inch wide strips from the left over lumber and nail them to the inside of the two side pieces. Those will be what the canopoy rests on the top of the tank. Add some trim to style it up and an access door if needed and hang the light SECURELY from the ceiling so it sits just below the top of the canopy. Wham Bam thank ya mamm....

Not going to be the nicest setup in the world but it will do for what you have....

DL is on target with the open canopy idea. An enclosed canopy will contain too much heat.

I had been build many canopy and all of them have to have the back open for ventilation of the heat from lighting system, you can make one with door in the front and draw a rectangular box on top,use jig saw to cut it out and put the MH there, for the back of the canopy even it is open but you have to use at least 1 1/2" wall for reinforcement, cube canopy is easier to build, they are square and hold up stronger, don't need center brace like those for rectangular tank

Forgot to mention that from the picture of the tank look like you need 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 for the lower lip to cover the plastic trim, that where you put the stopper for the canopy rest on it and another 8" or so from the MH to water surface, total around a little more than 9",10" total high for the canopy is the ideal high IMO

I think the open top is gonna work best. maybe I'll Cut a little thing in the front so I can feed and do water changes.

I need to just switch to t5's

Hey Anthony - Here is my canopy build.
      http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33915
The back is open and the lights are mounted away from the top of the canopy to allow heat dissipation. I also have fans installed. I will upload more pics soon.

If you decide to put a fan on your canopy there are some cheap ones at Walmart that you can mod to fit your canopy and they push some major air. I've got a 9" that i bought for $10 at walmart, did a mod and keeps the heat away from my tank alot better than my $60 setup. Just an idea.
