      nano skimmers

What is the best nano skimmer out there? Looking to fit one in a back chamber for an all in one tank...

If it'll fit, this skimmer ROCKS!

smokn... haven't seen that one but it isn't getting very good reviews.

ed- I'm getting a solana and I think those do fit in the back. Just don't want to pay the new price

I guess this is a relevant question also...

Is a skimmer REALLY necessary at all in a solana?

I know what you mean Brad, but it would prolly be worth it in the long run.....similar cost to a new Remora I'd sell you mine that's not presently being used, but you kinda have to pry Tunze products from my cold dead hands

.....to your second question, I'd say you can definitely get away with skimmerless

The solana does come with a skimmer but I'm not sure how effective it is.

I made my own out of water bottles. Works quite well for a nano skimmer.

I'd seriously try running it stock first and see what happens if you're not looking to drop the cash. Should be fine

Check RC, N-R. People have mesh modded the original skimmer and done some other things. I tossed mine and grabbed a tunze 9002, used on the forums and a SteveT collection cup. Even w the magnet, I could get it to fit in the far left and return sections. However, I have no hard or anecdotal data on the difference in quality; but its fairly easy to dial in (w some patience and a strong pair of needle nose).

Im looking at getting a new skimmer also. I currently have a aqua C remora and it sucks. Its loud and never gets dark skimmate , just watery skim. I have heard good reviews on octopus skimmers . Im looking at getting this one or the 300 model.

Brad, the stock skimmer is ok. i used it for a year with no issues, might have to do a few things to it to be effective but i wouldn't buy a new one just yet, try it out first, i was happy with it. Better than not having a skimmer. I have a nano remora right now after after being "modded" it's barely noticeable and is effective if you clean it as per instructions and i'm a big stickler for loud skimmers but it works fine. pm me if you have any questions. Chris
