For all those shots, I took 3 bracketed exposures by hand (didn't carry a tripod around SF ) varying by 1.3 EV. HDR is a lot of fun and a powerful tool but it can easily be misused as evident by a lot of terrible examples on Flickr

I'd love to see some of yours, please share!

P.S. I'll PM you about Photomatix.

      Thanks Photo-Guru, I'm honored!

Hm, I thought I would look like a freak with a tripod riding in the Muni, how do you think the retractable monopod would go over? I didn't want to give these San Franciscans any ideas

Wow Minh! That looks great. I've never heard of HDR before, until this post and did some research. Looks like I have a project in the next few weeks.

HAHA... You should really get the trip pod I have... 2 in 1 with the monopod. And if some Friscans come your way with the monopod out, you still have the legs of the tripod to defend yourself. With you being a ninja and all that really shouldn't be a problem for you.

How did you take the fish one? Did you take a single Raw file and change the exposures

Yep, had to work with one exposure this time. I can't keep up with those darn fast swimming fish! The aperture of the initial shot was wide open so the image had a very shallow depth of field as a result so I had to black out the background. This way Photomatix would have an easier time processing the HDR and tone mapping the image. It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted but it'll have to do for now...until I figure out how to teach these fish to sit, stay and pose
