      2-20-09 update

The "island" is starting to fill out.
Sundew on the right side grew from a root I had tossed in..
Terrestrial mosses are starting to adapt to the wetter conditions
I also found some tiny plants growing with some local terrestrial mosses which I added.
The Riccia sp. ''mini'' is growing really well under the LED lights
I was beginning to get a lot of algae so I started dosing with Excel a few days ago and the algae has started melting away.

      That looks nice.
I like the pump in stump, and rock border around base.
There's a fine line between owning your tank, and having your tank own you!_________________________________________

      Thanks
The pump, heater & float for the ATO are actually down below the rocks in the base.

Wow that's amazing. I've been thinking of doing something like that. With a newt or something in it. Where the hell did you find a stump like that? Is it just a piece of driftwood that fit nicely on it?

I was hiking around Hellhole Canyon with my son and picked it up. It's a little Manzanita stump left over from when the big fire went thru the area a few years ago. There are Manzanita branches laying all over the place left over from the fire, it's about the only thing that was left after the fire burned thru the area. Makes great driftwood if anyone needs some.

It's a liquid carbon source, some people use it instead of CO2 in smaller tanks and it works well at getting rid of algae when you use it at double the recommended dose levels . I'm pretty sure Aquatic Warehouse sells it.
