The RKL is not compatible with the NET module. Their thinking here was twofold. They saved some cost in limiting some of the capabilities of the RKL head unit. They also felt that if you have a system that warrants email notification and connectivity that the NET module provides, then you would be better off with the RKE system.

Also wondering if any of these units have the ability to send logs to a syslog server on another computer?
I do not know what is involved with that or how syslog stuff works, so I can't give you a real answer. I know that it outputs a continuous RSS feed, but I imagine that is something different.

      Bit off topic but:

I've been interested in the RKL but the wavemaker on the RK2 wasn't compatible to pump livespan (ie Koralia, Tunze).

The forum on the RKE says: 'There are a number of pumps that will work just fine with the RKE, with a little thought during setup.
-Hydor powerhead work fine. However Hydor pumps size 2 and smaller must be plugged into channel 1 or 4 on the PC4.
-MaxiJets work well also, again the smaller sizes should be plugged into channel 1 or 4.
When using these powerheads you may experience them "sticking" on. That's due to a poor power factor and the primary reason for the relays.'

      Has something changed?

I am unaware of any controllers that have a traditional syslog facility. In the case of the Neptune AquaControllers, the companion software AquaNotes continuously polls the controller, and logs the data in a PC-based database. I assume that the RK line & MyReef software does something similarly.

I don't like AquaNotes, so I wrote my own datalogger.

That is not a problem with the Reefkeeper, it is a problem with the pumps not being designed to be turned on and off continuously. The new line of power strips, the PC4, has two relay outlets (1 & 4) and two solid state outlets (2 & 3). Because the PC4 has only 4 outlets instead of 8, it makes these problems easier to deal with.

Is there an advantage of pre-ordering, versus waiting for others to be guinea pigs?

Not really. They start shipping them tomorrow, so within a week they will be easier to get.
