      monsters?

any monster fresh setups out there? i know this is a reef site, but we are all locals and im curious about other locals fresh setups too. im way new to salt and reef's but im having fun with it. i haven't posted much on this site yet but plan to over time. if i may introduce myself, my names kirk. i was born n raised here in san diego. im 23. i've been doing freshwater since 1995. my first tank was a 150gal. yada blada

anyway, i do have a small reef on its way, but i guess i can make another thread over in the members tanks section? its only a 10gal but im enjoying it so much!

as for my fresh setups, i can post pics if you'd like but for now i'd jus like to tell you guys about them and if there is enough interest ill dig up some photos.

i have 2 fresh tanks, 1 is a 150gal, the other is a 400gal. my smaller tank (150) houses a leichardti arowana around 20", endli bichir 17", ornate bichir 12", large clown loach 6", and a indo datnoid 4".

my 400gal houses my 3 large silver aros around 26 inches, 1 giant gourami about 22 inches, 2 spotted gars, 1 shortnose gar, all around 20 inches, 1 red tail catfish around 22", 1 tiger shovel nose catfish around 18 inches, 1 buttikofferi talapia around 13", an oscar, 1 temensis peacock bass around 15 inches, and a pacu for my girlfriend. she thinks they're cute. well he was at 3" but a few months later and 10+ inches later, i think its halarious.

anyone out there with monster fresh setups? i'd love to see some other tanks in the area with some nice sized fish with some good age under them.. if you do post up! or if u jus wanna see some pics/vids let me know and ill dig some up.

I have a 350 gallon pond in my back yard, working on the water fall.
Live stock are Fancy guppies for the mosquito control and around 30 African Chiclids " electric blue, electric yellow, red zebra and yellow peacock. Mixed Colors looks great swimming around and they have babies just as much as the guppies. Yes they do survive the winter weather. No monster fish, well i do have the two large Plecos.

I'll see about taking some this weekend. Because of the cold weather the chiclids are chilling on the bottom. I use to have a above ground 800 gallon pond. when i was renting, but i moved and tried to dig out a pond in the backyard. too much hard labor so it's only 350 gallons..

I just have a lowly 75g that takes second consideration to my 300g reef.

haha. im in a weird situation at times. i'm like so excited about sw i almost feel like ponding my monsters and setting it up salt. but seems SOOOO expensive to do it. 400gal of water, salt, 300lbs of live rock or so, then filling it up with life. eek

I have the 300g tank w/75g refug SW setup sitting near the newly set up
180g freswater. My FW system has a 8" bloodparrot and a 18" frontosa that are over 8 yrs old along with two bichirs 9" & 6", a survivor marbel anglefish that at one time had all his fins and tail bitten off but somehow made it, and a newly planted frontosa colony of 13 that I dropped in last weekend. Mixed in is a huge stripped rafael catfish that is almost as wide as he is long, a golden spotted pleco, a tiny marble pleco, and a standard pleco....all along 22 something fish.

This tank is different, but as interesting as the SW tank. Definitely both are in a position to maintain at min cost. The SW does require more cleaning, more light thus more elec cost and a skimmer to clean. Should do more maint on the SW as I do also.

Will always keep both but found that as you go into larger systems they become equally enjoyable.

Small SW over small FW wins hands down no contest however....

Yes, the FW tank at AW is impressive...it almost convinced me to dump my FW into my larger tank and switch positions, but I'm glad I didn't.

Guess I need to get some better shots, here is a "Phone Camera" PIC of Beluga with some of his new friends (the largest of the small ones is 6" so you can guess how large the bull is)

Smirkis - You have to post pics of your 400 now. I, along with other members here, would like to see shots of this monster tank. My 180, compared to your 400, is not a monster at all. And by the way, I pm'ed you.

Yep, AW FW tank is 700g peninsula. 12" peacock and a fast growing arowana. Very cool goldie pleco that is giant. Also a nice looking albino pleco.
