I ran with the Canon 40D. I figured I'd go with the Canon this time, being that my old skool 35mm was a Nikon.

I'm noticing that ALL the pictures from various DSLRs are underexposed. i talked to a few instructors about it, and it appears as though most cameras are designed to be as such, since over exposure is deadly in digital.. However, here's a fix everyone should try and adjust:

if you are using the in camera meter OR an External meter (incident OR reflective) most DSLRs need a push of about 1/2 - 1 full stop of light. My Canon 5d's sensitivity is almost 1/2 stop under, where my friends D200 is a full stop under.

Best way to compensate while using automatic modes, is to tell the camera to overexpose by 1/3 or 2/3 of a stop and check your histogram for highlight readings. If they are ALL the way to the right, you over did it... If they taper off JUST BEFORE the right edge your golden. Keep in mind that different subjects may require different compensations, so keep that histogram on screen for the preview!

However, I must say taht second picture looks exTREMELY sharp, and the color is awesome!!
