Ok guys, this thread is staying on topic and civil but lets keep it that way please. Keep making my job easy .
Reef keeping is a hobby, hobbies keep our minds occupied and keep us sane, sane people are more likely to be attractive to the opposite sex thus able to procreate. Talking about reefing on web sites enables us to maintain the hobby, and expand upon it. Also our primal urges which drive us to acquire things (ie collect stuff) is a form of wealth gathering.. wealth gathering = success, success = attractive to opposite sex. (and thats not even bringing up all the people whom are able to gain a living via proxy threw reef keeping)
Posting videos of nut shots on you tube.. same as above. Except posting videos = attention = notoriety = attraction via opposite sex. ..and then there is the whole laughter sanity thing.
Come on; you searched Pacific-reef-recovery and that's all you found? ENN(Environmental News Network) Wow! That's right up there with USA Today.
It may be logical to you but that's not science and being "dam logical" does not make it true.
True; excess nitrates start algae to bloom which is why I mention run-off.
I doubt an increase in CO2 in the ocean causes algae to grow at a more rapid rate? CO2 was never a limiting factor to algae growth.
I'd believe the hypothesis of decreased calcification with low pH before low pH causing increased algae blooms.
global warming = warmer oceans
warmer oceans = easier for algae to grow
plants always thrive in warmer conditions.
And reality doesn't depend on you believing in it or not, it exists even if you don't think it does.
Like God?
(Haha sorry man I had to)
soon as god can be measured with a thermometer, a CO2 meter, and a PH probe, he will exist.
also, what's up with those gorgs you offered to sell me?
Ah my bad man. And no sale buddy, just trade me a little something. Let me cut them tomorrow and let them heal and I'll let you know.
How big of frags can you take?
"warmer oceans = easier for algae to grow" Why?
"plants always thrive in warmer conditions" Yes, but algae does not; with cooler water algae pervades. You have it back-wards. Just look in that puddle to the west at an up-welled current called Humboldt.
"And reality doesn't depend on you believing in it or not, it exists even if you don't think it does" I said that low pH in the ocean has not caused any coral loss. These dudes in article you sited got together and are speculating it could happen. Sure, but let's see the data that is has happened or it is happening.

how big is your garden? because I call BS on you being able to live off your garden most of the time, as you claim
You are invited to drop by and check out my garden anytme you would like to. I also suppy my friends and family with stuff from the overflow that I get. You are welcome to take a bag full of stuff with also. You would be surprised at the amount of food you can get from a small area when you know what you are doing. In the mean time I will take a few pictures for you and post them here and measure the square footage also. I have never bnothered to actually measure it.
My motorcycles get about 50mph and my truck gets about 22mph. I could be driving a truck that gets about 10mph but I don't. Turns out my conservation decision is also saving me a ton of money these days....
You're confusing water temperatures and nutrient levels, the pacific coast has tons of nutrients to feed all that plant growth.
Ohh ok, so you're a marine biologist that studies reefs for a living, thus giving you authority to state that lower PH is not effecting wild reefs?"And reality doesn't depend on you believing in it or not, it exists even if you don't think it does" I said that low pH in the ocean has not caused any coral loss. These dudes in acticle you sited got together and are speculating it could happen. Sure, but let's see the data that is has happened or it is happening.
I guess the wide agreement in many articles by many different marine bioligists, in peer reviewed journals, making the same conclusion as this article...is unimportant, because...you say so.
I suppose Love or hate don't exist since there is no man made device by wich to measure them.
it's called an MRI
