Peter, from what i've seen with other people (and correct me if i'm wrong), they tend to just "melt" to form around whatever its mounted to. At least with the alien eye types.

Like a bag loosely placed over the rock, or a bag with all the air space removed between it and the rock? Does that make sense?

Yeah, that sounds about right, but with most oxypora type chalices, they tend to plate.

That's cool, I like the "fluffier" echino types anyways

So we'll see what mine does in its final location:

Pete, are referring to something like this.

      I wanna play, here's mine.
Got it about 8 months ago, it was small and mounted to one of those white plastic discs. It grew over that like an umbrella, then I mounted it to some rubble, and now to the rock it's on.
      It's pretty much hollow underneath.

edit: pic seems dark, I suk at them. The colors are brighter.

Yes Jasper, that is the smooth, flat kind I was thinking of that grows like an open umbrella, not really much at all to the contours of the rock....great piece, BTW!

That seems like a different species from all the other regular chalices here, due to the plating and how comparitively small the polyps heads are.
