Mike, did you get this from Emmer? Looks familiar! If you did, the mother colony has some great color patterns in it. Very nice piece.

Nope wish I knew he had a colony. Looks like I'm going to keep a close eye on this thread. I'll probably save a lot of money next time around.

I think most places call that the chrismas chalice. Sean has a fairly large piece that Emmer took a frag of. I think it looks like the same coral. Anyways, nice piece for sure.

I'm thinking people don't like to frag chalices as it ruins the symetrical round growth pattern, ya?

anyone else noticing that chalices look good mainly when they're small frags and tightly zoomed in?

The large zoomed out colonies just look like bumpy colored rocks.

They grow it back. The ones I have kinda form a roundish shape. One of them started out as a square another was the frag shape of a triangle.

There is some truth to what you say however, I've seen larger chalices get cut up like pizzas and the MC resembles a pac man shape.

Well they are just bumpy rocks Depends...generally ones with larger eyes look pretty good. Too many colors on the small bumps look really cool as macros, but get muddy, IMO, as they blend together from far away as large pieces.

I know they grow back, I'm just thinking that the perfectly round shape will never come back, since the unbroken area will grow just as much as the broken area?

I thought that would be the case too, but I was surprised to be proven wrong. If you look at the triangle frag it starts to round out. I can take a third progression picture where the edges almost over lap the frag disc prefectly.

Oh I get it, it probably grows out and sideways too, more so than a monti cap, for example. Cool! Good to know...I won't mind fragging then

Mine that I got from Jared was perfectly round b4 he fragged it(I was surprised he did cut it and very greatful) but as mine grows it looks kinda like a figure 8, and one edge looks like it's lifting, kinda like a monti.
I can't wait to see what it does, maybe it will become perfectly round again, not sure, but yeah, it would have to be someone I seriously want to bro back to frag it!
