Definately go with DSLR, either Nikon or Cannon. I use a Nikon D70 with a 105mm macro lense. Therefore, for lenses both the 60mm macro lense and a 105mm macro lense will work to get those nice sharp close up pics.

I cant say much for Cannon since I dont use them but they offer smiliar lenses and its also an excellent quality product line. If I were to do it over again, I might have gone with Cannon. You'll be happy with either.

There's one thing I have to say that Nikon DSLRs and lens' have that Canon doesn't.......That awesome matte black finish that says "I'm a photographer and I mean business." My Canon looks awesome, but something about the Nikon's finish just makes them look outright mean.
Always stay positive, but expect the worst and nothing bad will ever happen.;)

Heehee, does Canon still use "Image is everything!" for the Rebels series??? If that's the case, they should have killer look lenses as well...But I am sure that is not what they meant by "Image"...

ONLY one thing I can really think of when comparing Nikon/Canon is the nice beefy feel when holding the Nikon. And picture quality wise, it's a toss up between the twos and that is when you need the skillz to pay the bills like...*Ahem* *Nick* *Ed*...

If you have big hands, then I would go with Nikon. Unless you want to get the top tier DSLR of canon, they are beefier too!

I think im going to get the Nikkor AS-F 60mm F/2.8

I might get the 105, but i don't have that much distance to work with in my tank.

Also i read that the D300 is quite similar to the D3 in most aspects with the exception of Full Frame, and lord knows i don't need that. And i can save $k's.
