RKE firmware update pdf starts off with the wrong foot: the first diagram shows two different products labeled as "RKM-SL1". The rest of the manual has me going in circles. I managed to update the SL1 even though the example they had updated the PC4. I dunno how to update the PC4.
Wow, for "not having to learn a new language" this sounds pretty complicated...
For the people who have bought this, would you suggest this over the 250 dollar RK2? price vs. function what would you go with?
Absolutely without a doubt I would still buy the RKE. It is way more expandable and the RK2 can't do all of the things that I want to do. There have been a few hiccups, but mine is running well now.

Here is the thread on how to calibrate the pH probe. It's written in plain English.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1427793
Copied below:
"Remove the cap from the probe and rinse in clean water, I use RO. Target will say 10 or 7. Put the probe in that test solution. wait several minutes until raw data settles down to a swing of only about 10 units or so. Then hit next.
Rinse the probe again in clean water and stick in the other solution again wait several minutes until it settles down and then save.
I then rinse it again and go back through the process now looking at cur data and waiting until it matches target, press next.
Rinse use other solution and match target to current, then save.
Rinse a final time and place probe in sump or tank."
Any ph or ORP probe would need to be calibrated regardless of who makes it. In the case of the RKE they use AM Pinpoint probes and yes they have to be calibrated. It is easy to do and pretty straight forward. The temp probe does not need any calibration unless you feel something is way off. Then finding something to calibrate it to would be expensive or tough.

Has anyone updated with the latest RKE programming app (v1.0.3)?
I'm not sure if there are new firmware updates (v.1.0.2's). I already applied the short-lived, previous firmware updates. So, I'll probably wait until the next update. Also, someone on RC is complaining that their temp probe has gone wacky after the latest update.
My pH and temp probes seem to be working well. Although, I'm not too happy with the temp graph displaying 70 - 100 degrees on the y-axis because it just appears flat now (other option graphs 0 -100). The resolution was better before I updated. I can't figure out how the RKE "head unit" decided to change graph display when the other modules were the ones that were changed.
I've also got a fan under RKE control. It's been cooling down the sump. It works!
...just a quick heads up for RKE users out there. One of my PC4's controlling just 2 fans decided to trip (I think). So, the PC4 displayed the "red dot of death" LED. I disconnected it, toggled the power and it reset itself.
This is after controlling the fans for a few days, so it can't be a programming issue. One fan is on top of egg crate which is on top of the sump. The other is simply set to be on 24/7 to cool down AI adaptors.
This kind of random activity has kept me from using RKE to control my main pump and protein skimmer. I've read similar random problems like this on RC.
So, please visually monitor your RKE frequently if you're hooking up vital equipment!
You'd think we'd get a discount for being BETA testers...
Did this thread die or is everyone happy?
Has anyone heard info on MLC's?
MLC's should be shipping in the first or second week of October. They have the MLC's but ran into a manufacturing problem with the LED pods.
Current fimware release is 1.05, so upgrade if you haven't already. (It fixes the red light issue, among other things.)
Check out: http://forum.digitalaquatics.com./ for all of the latest info.
