I have a 90 gal tank and I would like to have a large school of anthias. Can I have 2 different species of anthias in a tank. If so, I'll probably have 3 or 4 or each species. What do you think?

Talk to the Anthia King. I am sure Peter will chime in on this one.
Depends on the species. 8 anthias in a 90g is a lot. Small species might be ok. How do you plan to filter this tank? Reef tank?

I'm interested in lyretail anthias and pink square anthias. It will be a reef tank, with sump, skimmer, refugium, etc. I'm thinking 3 lyretails and 3 square anthias. Probably all female.
Forget pinksquares, they get huge. Need lots of space.
Lyretails are great. I have three in my 115g. Can't really see putting more than that. The male is HUGE 5+ inches. You could mabe go with a trio or bartletts in addition. You're gonna need a BIG skimmer to keep water quality up. They eat a LOT.

What about lyretails and dispars anthias?

Dispars can be tricky. They come in "wormy" (think stringy white poop) and feeding can be a problem..they only take very very tiny meaty foods at first, requiring MANY feedings throughout the day until they get used to eating more per feeding, and larger pieces.
With my established anthias, they get fed one long feeding (several times over a few hours) per day. Lights are on 8 hrs/day. Newly acquired anthias require many feeding per day until they regain their fat reserves after all that shipping/holding with no food.

Hey Peter,
Do your anthias miss their shot of vodka each day?

They still get it. Just because I don't have acros in the tank doesn't mean I want nutrient buildup, silly!

Vodka? What is it used for?

Your experience with Anthias can be different than others. Generally, as others here have said, aclimating them to eat well may be difficult but doable. With that said, I purchased 4 dispars from Hybrid Aquatics / Gustavo, and they ate very well right from the start with Flake food, and I haven't changed their diet since (your experience may differ). Every now and then they get treats of Mysis, Brine, and what not, but overall they eat lots of Flake food. I was fortunate with my Dispar Anthias and it was my first experience with them. I will say though that I did place them into a 20g QT tank first to be cautious, but as I said they ate voraciously and were healthy from the get-go.

Do you have pics of them by any chance? I'd just be curious to see if they are dispars, or maybe the often mistaken flame anthias....
